Q: How did the 4Th of July officially become a US Holiday?

A: The very first official state observance of the Fourth under control of a legislative order was in Massachusetts in 1781. Boston was the municipality who officially designated the 4Th of July as a holiday, back in 1783. Governor Alexander Martin of North Carolina was the first to set forth a state mandated order to observe Independence Day on the 4Th of July in 1783.

Thanks for the post. I was visiting relatives and looking for fireworks for the 4th for the kids. Seems limited this year, maybe because it's on a Wed.?
NO FUN! I heard Massillon moved theirs from the stadium because of some oil tanker, anyone have any ideas where they moved to "downtown?". It's a pretty small downtown and parking would be limited.
Thanks again!
